America 250 is the primary project that the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution are engaged in to celebrate our nation's 250th Anniversary. It is each state society's responsibility to engage in spreading the word about the country's history and education of the men and women who put their live and fortunes at risk to establish its independence from English rule and chart a course for future generations of Americans. In this effort, we celebrate the founders and their tenacity to achieve the United States of America.

Sons of the American Revolution and America250 Announce Historic Partnership to Honor America’s 250th Anniversary

February 17, 2025

Washington, D.C. –  America250, the official nonpartisan initiative working to engage every American in celebrating and commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Semiquincentennial, has announced a national partnership with the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). This partnership will build on SAR’s longstanding commitment to honoring Revolutionary War patriots and educating future generations about the nation’s founding history.

As a premier lineage society committed to promoting patriotism, history, and education, SAR will work alongside America250 to expand and coordinate efforts leading up to this historic milestone. Together, America250 and SAR will bring history to life, fostering a deeper connection to the nation’s past while shaping the future of civic engagement and historical appreciation.

“The Sons of the American Revolution have played a vital role in preserving the legacy of those who fought for our nation’s independence,” said Rosie Rios, America250 Chair. “This partnership strengthens our shared mission of honoring history while engaging new audiences in celebrating the values of freedom and democracy.”

“As an organization committed to preserving the memory of our patriot ancestors and deepening appreciation for our nation’s founding, we are honored to partner with America250,” said Dr. Darryl Addington, SAR President General. “Together, we will amplify efforts to commemorate this historic anniversary and inspire future generations to connect with their American story.”

Through their respective educational programs, America250 and SAR will engage young Americans, ensuring the next generation is empowered with knowledge and pride in the nation’s history. America250’s America’s Field Trip contest invites students in grades 3-12 to reflect on the question, “What does America mean to you?” Meanwhile, SAR encourages youth to explore their lineage and discover their patriotic roots by asking, “Where does your American story begin?”

This partnership builds on America250’s collaborations with heritage societies, including the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Partners like SAR and DAR are crucial in educating Americans and fostering reflection on our nation’s history ahead of the commemoration.

About America250

America250 is a nonpartisan initiative working to engage every American in commemorating and celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Semiquincentennial. It is spearheaded by the congressionally appointed U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission and its nonprofit supporting organization, America250.org, Inc., together known as America250. This multi-year effort kicked off with America’s Invitation on July 4, 2023: a national public engagement campaign inviting all Americans to share their stories and their hopes and dreams for the future of this country. Through July 4, 2026, America250 is working to provide opportunities for all Americans to pause and reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and look to the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond.
