Idaho Point System for

America 250 Campaign Medals

On May 2, 2025, the Idaho State Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (IDSSSAR), Board of Managers, established its America 250 Project. The project is to support the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (NSSAR) efforts to encourage and recognize those compatriots, chapters, and societies that participate in local, state, national and international events which publicly educate, and recognize, honor, and celebrate the events and heroes of the period surrounding the American Revolution. Compatriot William Flink (wflink.sar@yahoo.com) was appointed Chairman of the project.

On June 5, 2025, the Idaho State Society Board of Managers discussed the America 250 Project preliminary criteria for points and medals, and approved the following for Idaho compatriots.

______________

The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (NSSAR) has established three medals that can be awarded to Compatriots for their participation in its America 250 Campaign. The medals are for award by Chapters (Bronze), the State Society (Silver), and the National Society (Gold). NSSAR has indicated that the points awarded are to be verified by the awarding body.

In Idaho, the Idaho State Society’s Board of Managers determined that for Chapter and State points, the State America 250 Project will evaluate and confirm the award of points for the Bronze and Silver medals.  The NSSAR has determined that the State Society is responsible for verifying points that Compatriots earn toward the Gold medal. Once the Gold Medal points are confirmed by the State America 250 Project, the Compatriot earning the points will submit his medal documentation to the NSSAR America 250 Campaign to be reviewed and approved.

As such, it has been agreed upon by the Idaho America 250 Project and the Board of Managers that the following shall be the standards that the Idaho Society will use in awarding Compatriots’ America 250 points and medals.

Process to Award Points and Medals

1. America 250 points are accrued under the conditions established by the NSSAR America 250 Campaign guidelines. See the NSSAR America 250 instructions: 250th Anniversary Gold Medal Application Form Download.

2. Compatriots submitting points for medals shall submit the PART 1: Submission Information of the above 250th Anniversary Gold Medal Form for each medal (Bronze, Silver, or Gold) that a Compatriot wishes to be awarded for participation in the America 250 Campaign.

Medal points are cumulative. A compatriot who has been awarded points for the Bronze Medal can use the same points towards his Silver Medal by including information for the additional 35 points required for the Silver Medal. Use PART 1: Submission Information as a cumulative document. If there is any question regarding this information, contact the State America 250 Project Chairman.

2. For each event listed on PART 1: Submission Information, some form of verification must be included. Verification should include a short description of the event and the compatriot’s participation in or at the event. Also, compatriots are encouraged to include a copy of an attendance roster, or a photograph of the submitting compatriot at the stated event, or acknowledgment of another compatriot who was at the same event, or another source the Compatriot submits that is determined acceptable to Idaho’s America 250 Project.

3. Completed PART 1: Submission Information documents and forms of verification can be emailed to William Flink, (wflink.sar@yahoo.com), for review and acknowledgement of verification. If email is not an option, mail the information to William Flink at 4691 West Dawson Drive, Meridian, Idaho, 83646.

In addition, should the submitting Compatriot wish to be awarded the accompanying medal, as applicable, he should include a check for the amount of the medal. See the medal cost at the NSSAR Store: https://store.sar.org/decade-of-america-250th-items-c55.aspx. Neither the State Society nor the Chapters will be responsible for payment of the medal. Medals will be awarded to the Compatriot at the earliest convenience of the State or Chapter.

4. After State point verification is completed, the State America 250 Project Chair will send notification to the Compatriot and the Chapter President, State President, or National Society, whichever is applicable, acknowledging the verified Compatriot’s accrued points.

NOTE: The Idaho State Society America 250 Project Chairman is not the final approval for the Gold, NSSAR National Medal.  NSSAR is the final approval.  After review and approval by the IDSSSAR America 250 Project, the Compatriot earning the NSSAR Gold Medal points will submit his PART 1: Submission Information form directly to the National Committee at the email address listed on the front page of the 250th Anniversary Gold Medal Application Form.

The National Society has the final word regarding acceptance of the application for the Gold Medal. Acceptable America 250 Project events that are currently approved and disapproved for medal points HERE.

We encourage all Compatriots to review this criteria before completing your America 250 Medal application form.

NOTE: The Idaho America 250 Project and the Process we are using is new to the State Society. Conditions and events for the award of America 250 Medals will be constantly evaluated to ensure that Compatriots can participate in the America 250 Campaign in a fair and equitable manner.

We have consulted with the NSSAR America 250 Committee to inquire on our process and events for awarding points, and will continue to do so as new events might raise questions about points to be awarded.

Suggestions for modifications to the above process should be made to the Idaho State Society America 250 Project Chairman, who will assess the modification and present such suggestions to the Board of Managers.  All member suggestions will be addressed appropriately.
