2016 Fort Boise Chapter Fall Luncheon Meeting

The 2016 Fall Luncheon Meeting was held at 12:00 Noon in the Willard Arts Center on 17 September at Idaho Falls. The meeting was opened with the posting of Colors by the Idaho Society Color Guard commanded by Terry Patterson. President Randy Bailey led in the reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and SAR Pledge. President-elect Eugene Hill then delivered the invocation. Lunch was then served.

After lunch, President Randy Bailey spoke about current events and gave an update on the Idaho Society, SAR. President Randy Bailey presented A War Service Medal with Iraq bar to Compatiot Alexander Flink and a War Service Medal with Afghanistan bar to Compatriot Colonel Robin Spofford.

The featured speaker, Rod Hanson, Director of Exhibits at the Museum of Idaho then spoke about the "Rebels wth a Cause" exhibit. After which President-elect Eugene Hill delivered the Recessional and Benediction. The meeting was adjourned and those present proceeded to the Museum of Idaho for a tour of the "Rebels with a Cause" exhibit.

Idaho SAR Poster Winner receives Honorable Mention

It was reported by Idaho SAR National Trustee, Compatriot Gary Pettett, MD that Gracie Castillo's poster had been
awarded an "Honorable Mention" at the 2016 National Congress in Boston, MA. Well done Gracie and Congratulations!

2016 Fort Boise Chapter Spring Luncheon and Awards Banquet

The Fort Boise Chapter met at the Riverside Hotel in Boise at 12:00 Noon on 21 May 2016. There were 32 members and guests in attendance.


President Randy Bailey opened the meeting and led the attendees in reciting the "Pledge of Allegiance" and the "SAR Pledge".


Secretary Matt Brechwald then delivered the invocation. After which lunch was served.

President Randy Bailey and Secretary Matt Brechwald then opened the Awards and Recognitions portion of the program by presenting the SAR War Service Medal with Vietnam bar to Jerry D. Poss for his service with the U. S. Army in Vietnam. J. D. also accepted the War Service Medal with Vietnam bar for his brother Donald Poss for his service with the U. S. Air Force in DaNang, Vietnam, the War Service Medal with Southwest Asia bar for his son, Joshua Poss, U. S. Navy, who served aboard the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt in the Persian Gulf. J. D. also accepted a Military Service Medal for his brother, Larry Poss, who served as a Sergeant in the U. S. Army.



LtCol. Lewis Means Herrington, USMCR (Ret.) was presented with the War Service Medal with Southwest Asia bar for his service as a Captain during the Liberation of Kuwait.


President Randy Bailey presented Gracie Castillo with a certificate and a check for $50.00 as the winner of the Americanism Elementary School Poster Contest Winner. Gracie is a student at the Garden Valley Middle School, Garden Valley, Idaho.


The Arthur M. & Burden King Eagle Scout Award was presented to Eagle Scout Oliver J. Harrop of Nampa, Idaho. Oliver will also be entered into the NSSAR Eagle Scout Contest.

Jerry D. Poss was awarded the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal for his long career in law enforcement and for his actions that saved a young lady's life.


George Gunn was presented the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal for his many years of exemplary service as an Ada County Prosceutor.


George Gunn expressed his gratitude for being chosen for the Law Enforcement Medal. He remarked that the prosecutor's office is rarely recognized for the work that they do and he was truly honored to be recognized for his service.


Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts addressed the gathering and spoke of the Prosecution's role in protecting the Constitution.


Dr. Gary Pettett, trustee and delegate to the National Convention spoke of the continued construction and expansion of National Headquarters in Louisville, KY. He also talked of the new research tools available on "sharefile" and the continuing work to make the SAR files and documentation available much like the DAR does now.


President Randy Bailey and Secretary Matt Brechwald presented Registrar Frank Huntley with the Silver Roger Sherman Medal for his years of service to the Idaho Society, SAR.


Secretary Matt Brechwald led us in the Recessional and gave the Benediction. The meeting was then adjourned.
