Fall Luncheon Meeting Held

Meeting Called to Order


Idaho SAR President Paul Calverley called the meeting to order and welcomed the honored guests, members and guests. He then led in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Vice President Randy Bailey Introduced


President Calverley then introduced Vice President Randy Bailey (above with his sons and junior members Cole and Kellen) who led the reciting of the SAR Pledge.

Secretary/Treasurer/Registrar's Report


Secretary/Treasurer/Registrar LtCol. Charles James, USAF Ret., announced that we now have 80 members in the Idaho Society with two additional members holding dual membership.

Report from the 124th National Congress


The Idaho Society, SAR Alternate National Trustee, Dr. Gary Pettet was introduced and reported on the124th National Congress held in Greenville, SC from July 18 thru July 24. The Idaho Society, SAR was the recipient of:

1. a ribbon and Certificate of Participation for supporting and submitting a candidate in the Arthur M. King Eagle Scout Scholarship Contest.

2. a ribbon for the “President General’s Initiative 2013-2014 Retention Challenge” because we retained 92% or more of our membership during the period.

3. the "Texas Award" for the highest percentage of increase in membership among states with fewer than 100 members.

4. the "Kentucky Cup" presented to the State Society which enrolled the largest percentage of new members in 2013-2014.

New Members Inducted

President Paul Calverley adminstered the new member oath to our newest members William O'Connor, Jake O'Connor, LtCol Blaine Wales, USA, Capt Ned Barker, USA Ret., Leroy Jones, and James Saad. New member helper Frank Huntley then pinned the SAR Rosette on their lapels.

Military and War Service Medals Awarded

Homer Deal Scholarship Award

President Calverley introduced ROTC Cadet Tiffaney Tang as the 2014 recipient of the $1,000 Homer Deal Scholarship Award. LtCol Charles M. James, USAF Ret., presented the award to Tiffaney with LtCol Blaine Wales, USA, observing. Tiffaney attends Idaho State University and LtCol Wales is is charge of the ROTC Program at Boise State University.

Guest Speaker - Dr. Steve Sylvester

Dr. Steve Sylvester gave a very informative speech about "The Corps of Discovery - Tomohawks, Rifles, and Food for Thought" or "What Did Lewis and Clark Accomplish".

Closing Presentation and Recessional

President Paul Calverley led the membership in reciting the SAR recessional and the meeting was adjourned.


First Scheduled Meeting Held.

The first scheduled meeting on the Teton Chapter was held on 14 June, 2014.

It was decided that the Secretary and Treasurer positions would be combined and Paul Humrickhouse will fill that position. Dave Harris will remain as the President, Eddie McClure will remain as the Chaplain/Historian, and Eric Smith will be our Public Relations Person.

It was also decided that we will meet every other month with days to be decided at the meeting; these will be evening meetings. This will be until we have enough members to fix a day. We will be contacting the DAR for a charter signing meeting. We have several plans on advertising our Chapter.

Spring Luncheon Meeting Held

The Spring Luncheon Banquet was held on May 17th at the Riverside Hotel in Boise, Idaho and, in the words of LtCol. Charles M. James, USAF Ret., "Our luncheon meeting last Saturday was absolutely the best we have had since I have been a member".

Idaho SAR President Paul Calverley called the meeting to order and welcomed the honored guests, members and guests. He then led in the Pledge of Allegiance, and the reciting of the SAR Pledge. Rev. Dr. Ralph Lawrence then delivered the invocation. The honored guests were then introduced by President Calverley.

Secretary/Treasurer/Registrar LtCol Charles M. James (Ret) presented SAR War Service Medals to our newest members who served in a combat zone. LtCol Blaine Wales was absent due to a commitment at the Boise State University. His War Service Medal with Iraq bar and his Purple Heart Pin will be presented to him at a later date. Leslie E. Huntley was not present to receive his War Service Medal with Korea Bar. It will be presented to him later by his brother Francis Huntley.

"The Last Naval Battle of the American Revolution"
Secretary General and President General-Elect Brock presented a very interesting and informative account of the last naval battle of the American Revolution off the coast of Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Annual Idaho Society, SAR Washington's Birthday luncheon Meeting Held

A great luncheon meeting was held on February 15th at the Riverside Hotel in Boise Idaho. The guest speaker was Jan Boles, Archivist & Historian of the College of Idaho. More details will be posted here as they become available.
